Unrestricted and Restricted Narration

Unrestricted narration is whereby the audience has full knowledge to most of the information or is given as much information as possible allowing a build-up of tension. This means being giving more information than the characters know.

Restricted narration is where the audience is given as much information as one character knows. This minimal information regarding narrative allows the creators to produce shock or surprise when a factor is revealed due to lack of knowledge.
